Auvergne's Beautiful Villages

Nine villages in Auvergne have been ranked among France's most beautiful for their charm, history and quality as tourist destinations. Spend an afternoon discovering historical monuments, shopping in the boutiques held by local artisans, or hiking in the surrounding areas.



Explore the Romanesque church and basalt columns of Usson, where Queen Margot was locked away for 19 years. Montpeyroux, a former winemaking town, can be seen from miles away thanks to the dungeon towering over the village.



Blesle is brimming with history and is a perfect stopping point along the motorway. Arlempdes, perched along the cliffs of the Loire river has a volcanic past and is dominated by one of the first of the many chateaux along the Loire. Pradelles is the gateway to the South of France. Take a ride on the rail bike! And don’t miss the village of Lavaudieu, with its extraordinary Romanesque cloister.




Discover Charroux, a medieval village famous for its mustard. Take a tour in a horse-drawn carriage then have lunch in one of the many quality restaurants.



Visit Salers, to learn more about the cheese and cattle breed of the same name. Tournemire overlooks the valley of the Doire River and the impressive Anjoy castle.
