What is a greenway?
A path reserved for non-motorized vehicles, greenways are secured from traffic and are accessible to novice users. They are usually built along former railways and rivers and often in forests or in the countryside.
Dompierre-sur-Besbre (Diou – Digoin) - 30 km, pavement
A part of the "Eurovélo 6" route, this greenway along the Loire River highlights the fluvial infrastructure: 6 locks, 4 water bridges as well as aqueducts and spillways. Join up with the cycling route near Le Pal to ride the 37 km to Moulins.
Berry Canal (between Montluçon and Vallon-en-Sully) - 20 km, sand
Along the Berry Canal, discover locks and water bridges as well as castles and museums as you wind near the Cher River. Take the Val de Cher and Val d'Aumance paths to meet up with the majestic Tronçais Forest.
Montluçon and Néris les Bains - 6,4 km, sand
This route, along a former railway offers panoramic views from the three viaducts that cross the greenway. Reserved for bikes and pedestrians, this route continues to the south on the Combrailles cycling route.
La Piste Verte (Sumène Artense) - 14 km, pavement
By bike, on skates or on foot, the Piste Verte (Green Trail) is also on a former railway. Join up with the secured greenway wherever you like and take advantage of the water fountains, benches and picnic tables along the way. Bike rentals are also available.
La Tracolline Velay-Forez - 9 km, pavement
This highest greenway in France, at 800m, is an easy route open to everyone! Just 30 min du Puy-en-Velay, along a former railway in a countryside and forest setting, the greenway links Dunières and Riotord. Numerous picnic areas line the route, and bike and skate rentals are available.
Brives-Charensac au Brignon - 25 km, fine gravel
Along the railway that linked Puy-en-Velay to Langogne, this greenway begins at the Brives-Charensac train station. A gentle climb brings you to Brignon, passing through 5 lighted tunnels and a 184m long metal viaduct. Enjoy views of the Loire Valley and the Mézenc and Meygal volcanoes.
From the Oumey train station in Raucoules to Grazac, this greenway, along a former railway is open to pedestrians and cyclists. Toilets and picnic areas are located conveniently along the path.
Lavoûte-sur-Loire, Beaulieu, Rosières – 12 km, gravel
Along a former railway in the Emblavez area, this greenway takes you through the Corboeuf ravine, with a unique red soil. Then discover the Suissesse Valley in the countryside.
