Don't miss… horse riding across the volcanoes

When horse lovers visit the Auvergne, they often tell us "I'd like to ride on the volcanoes!". This kind of trip is unique to the Auvergne. Sometimes, you can even go inside the craters on horseback! Riding across the volcanoes is a classic horseback activity in the Auvergne.

An incredible variety of landscapes for your holiday on horseback

During a three-hour horse ride, you can discover mountainous landscapes, peaks, or jagged terrain which is nevertheless practicable with touring horses. You will find grassy, high altitude slopes and large plateaus where riders can set off for a gallop. Ideal sites include the Fontaine Salée Valley at the foot of the Sancy range, the Tronçais Forest, the Puy Mary and the great plateaus of the Haute-Loire.

Horse riding trails: a new way to enjoy a holiday on horseback

Throughout the Auvergne, horse riding trails have been laid out and signposted in orange. Tourists on horseback can discover a range of riding trails and gîtes especially suited to their journeys. They can undertake their trip without a guide, with their own horses, and can head off alone to discover the Auvergne. These horse riding trails enable independent riders to explore the Auvergne in total freedom.

Families and children are particularly welcome

A pony can be an excellent compromise when you're looking to take your family out on horseback. The kids are saddled up on small ponies and everything is set for a great family day out.
Equestrian tourist centres offer stays and activities especially for children and teenagers.

Natural heritage and horse riding go hand-in-hand in the Auvergne

Throughout the day, you'll be discovering breathtaking landscapes not to mention local flora, chamois and mouflons...
