Where to fish in Auvergne

The Sioule is one of Auvergne’s most beautiful rivers and is perfect for the sport of fishing. Born in the volcanoes of Auvergne, the river stretches for over 170km until meeting with the Allier River. Rich in brown trout, the unspoiled landscapes attract fly fishers and nature lovers.

In the Cantal, the Lastioulles Fishing Center offers lessons, material rentals, bait, fishing licenses, maps and more. The center includes 6 ponds and lakes where you can fish pike, perch, trout, carp and other small fish all year long.

The Domaine de Veirières and the lakes of Roussillou, Estives, and Graves are fishing reserves known for quality fly fishing of trout: brown, brook and rainbow.

Along the Saint-Etienne-Cantalès Lake, the campsites Puech des Ouilhes and Rives du Lac both offer guided fishing outings and plenty of activities for the whole family.
Finally, Grand Val is a fishing gîte near Garabit-Grandval Lake that offers guided fishing tours for teenagers.

In the north of the Auvergne, signposted trails along the rivers of the Allier department offer “Rando Fishing”, for outdoor enthusiasts looking to hike and fish at the same time.

Fishing regulations

Any person who engages in the practice of fishing must be in possession of a valid fishing license. By buying a fishing license, the fisherman becomes a member of an AAPPMA fishing association. To buy a license, visit www.cartedepeche.fr. Choose an organization that is in the town where you want to fish. There are a variety of licenses available, starting at 10€ (1 day, 1 or 2 weeks, etc.), to adapt to your fishing holiday.
For private lakes, fishers must be in possession of a special fishing permit for the lake, refer to signs around the lake to find out where you can buy the permit
