Lac Chambon ... Massif du Sancy
Lac Chambon ... Massif du Sancy

Le lac Chambon, a paradise for families

Lake Chambon, of volcanic origin, lies at an altitude of 877m. Situated in the Massif du Sancy, it has especially good family tourism facilities. With its beach, children's amusements and watersports activities, Lake Chambon is the place children like best!

As the lake is very shallow, its water warms up quickly, so it is everyone's sought-after and favourite (ideal) site! With two beaches laid out on the northern shore, the lake is a fine site for family activities.

Activities for everyone

Here children can build sandcastles, play at bowls or football, as well as go on swings, the zipline and slides in the play areas. There are also water-based amusements such as canoeing, kayaking and pedalos.

If you enjoy walking, you can also follow the footpath all round the lake. This easy walk is about an hour long. It will enable you to get away from the bustle of the beaches and will give you some superb views across the whole Sancy massif. Anglers too can take advantage of the spot to wait for a bite while enjoying the surrounding landscapes.

Mountain bikes and electrically assisted cycles can also be hired to ride round the lake and explore the neighbourhood without getting too tired: electrically assisted mountain bikes are available for hire from the Casino in Saint Nectaire

There is plenty of accommodation available around the lake: from the traditional camp-site to luxury lodges, environmentally friendly gites built entirely of wood.

Our advice: take the opportunity to include a visit to the Château de Murol, situated just a few kilometres from Lake Chambon.

Families, nature lovers, anglers: there's something for everyone at Lake Chambon, an Auvergne site not to be missed!
