Château de la Vigne, Ally ••• Cantal

Château de la Vigne

Originally a Merovingian castrum, then a medieval fortress, the castle was rebuilt in the 15th century by the Lords of Scorailles. With a panoramic view of the Cantal Mountains, La Vigne offers four bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. After breakfast, enjoy a visit of the castle from the owners – don’t miss the French gardens and the superb collection of 3500 miniature cars and antique toys.


Château de Sédaiges, Marmanhac ••• Cantal

Sédaiges Castle was an important military location as early as the 12th century. Rebuilt in the 15th century, then restored in the 18th and 19th centuries, it is a unique example of Troubadour architecture. The preserved interior boasts five Flanders' tapestries and the park offers a discovery trail. Stay in one of the five bright bedrooms, each with their own décor. The village restaurant serves delicious regional cuisine.

Château de Riau, Villeneuve-sur-Allier ••• Allier

Château de Riau

This rare example of Bourbon architecture includes a 15th century castle surrounded by a moat with a pigeon loft, a dungeon, and a unique tithe barn. Situated just north of Moulins, this historical monument has four double rooms each with an en-suite bathroom, and a children’s bedroom. Enjoy a visit of the chateau which includes an exposition of post-impressionist painter Emmanuel de la Villéon.

Near the knife-making town of Thiers, the Vollore Castle dates from the 12th century and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. Château Royal de Saint-Saturnin,

Saint-Saturnin ••• Puy-de-Dôme

Discover panoramic views of the Auvergne Volcanoes Régional Park and the village of Saint-Saturnin (one of the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”).  This fortress dates back to the 13th century. The last descendants of the founders (the de La Tour d'Auvergne family) were Queen Catherine de Médicis and her daugther Queen Marguerite de Valois, who gave the château in 1605 to the future King Louis XIII. In 2007, its new owners created three charming suites and two double rooms with period furniture and all the comforts of home.  The accommodation is a part of the “Châteaux et Hôtels Collection” and the Nattitude label.
