The south-west of the Auvergne region (Cantal department) is home to several resorts ready to welcome you for a day's skiing or an unforgettable winter sports holiday.
Here you can ski on Europe's largest volcano, which last erupted millions of years ago. Today its main summits are Le Puy Mary (1,787 m) and Le Plomb du Cantal (1,858 m). A dramatic setting for downhill action that will delight the whole family!
Le Lioran offers the full range of winter sports. It is one of the best-equipped and largest resorts in the Massif Central. On the slopes of Le Plomb du Cantal, the ski area boasts more than 60 km of trails and the finest facilities: more than 20 lifts including one cable car, chair lifts, ski lifts and a baby lift. The snow park even opens at night and a slalom park is accessible to the public.
The resort also looks out for your comfort, with a balneotherapy centre available for visitors looking for some relaxation. Treatments for one or more days available, as well as à la carte options.
Access to the resort is available by train, with a ski lift that leaves directly from the station! An ingenious solution for a hassle-free ski break.
There are several Nordic resorts throughout the Cantal Massif where you can enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing: Lioran Haute Planèze, Mandailles-Col du Perthus, Haut Cantal-Puy Mary, Plomb du Cantal Cardalès and Le Col du Légal.
In Saint Urcize, which lies in the Aubrac Massif, you can also try your hand at dog sledding, with two specially designed routes. Ideal for visiting the high plateaux of the Cantal region from a different perspective!
So what are you waiting for? Make the most of Cantal this winter!
