The
"Via Podiensis" starts at Le Puy-en-Velay and is one
of the four roads described in the 12th century for travelling
to the Spanish sanctuary of Santiago de Compostela. Pilgrims from
the entire Christian world went there to venerate the relics of
Christ’s apostle, martyred in Palestine in the year 44 and
whose body lies in Galicia. Crossing the Monts du Velay, the road
stops off at Saint-Privat-d'Allier, Monistrol-d'Allier and Saugues
before continuing on to Conques in Rouergue.
Laid out as the GR 65 hiking trail, this linear way lets the hiker
follow his pilgrimage in a serene state of mind.
