Ambert |
| |
 In
the heart of the Livradois-Forez region, in the land of
the novelist Henri Pourrat, Ambert has strongly developed
its industry and crafts thanks to the production of paper,
weaving, lace and religious items. Tourists will be surprised
by the circular shape of the Town Hall, by a visit to Agrivap,
the Museum of Farm and Steam-Powered Machinery or to the
Richard-de-Bas Paper Mill.

 Cutlery
has made the name of this town, which is laid out in tiers
on the sides of the ravine through which the Durolle flows.
No one can resist the magnificent view over the wide plain
of La Limagne and the Monts Dômes. A visit to the
old historical quarters is a delight. The picturesque houses
with their wooden panels sit alongside the Cutlery Museum
where the most splendid locally produced models are presented.
Discover the various production phases and follow up your
visit with a trip through the Vallée des Rouets in
the Gorges of the Durolle.

Clermont-Ferrand |
| |
 The
regional capital is not just an industrial city symbolised
by one of the foremost tyre producers in the world: Michelin.
Clermont-Ferrand is also home to magnificent religious buildings
such as Notre-Dame du Port Church, which is on UNESCO’s
World Heritage List. The Gothic Cathedral, Notre-Dame de
l’Assomption, and its two spires overlooking the city
have an impressive black colour due to the Volvic lava used
in their construction.
Nearby, around the sculpted fountains, the pedestrian streets
are lined by discreet private mansions. There are also nearly
eighty of them in “Old Montferrand”, where the
Roger Quillot Art Museum can be found. Many other museums
– Lecoq, Bargoin or du Ranquet – also add a
cultural touch to the hometown of the writer and thinker
of genius, Blaise Pascal.
The importance of the economic and academic fabric has led
to the development of conferences and seminars, which are
notably held in the ultra modern Polydôme
and the Grande Halle d’Auvergne .
